Just in time for Halloween, the Bradford Exchange has a collection of Monster car collectibles. There are two series, differing in scale and price. Each model is designed by Dave Aikins.
The Monster Hearse series consists of a quartet of 1/18 scale vintage hearses with classic monsters (hence the name, right?) popping out of the roof. Each car is themed and elaborately decorated for a different character: Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, and the Wolfman. The castings are identical, looking to be 1937 Studebakers. They each have elaborate bespoke hood ornaments.
The cars are listed as “sculptures,” so the bodies appear to be solid with opaque windows.
The Frank N. Stein’s Monster Garage Sculpture Collection, the second series is a smaller set, with cars approximately five inches long, or around 1/32 scale. Each car in this set has a completely different body, all in the classic style of 30’s cars hot-rodded in the ’50s. A garage building is also available to complete the theme.
By the way, when we said “just in time for Halloween,” it’s really for next year. Each of these collections is by subscription, with a new arrival every two months or so. The 1/18 set goes for $109 a pop, while the smaller ones are $49 each.
