There’s a trend in modern automotive design to skip showing radical concept cars in favor of not revealing anything until the final car is production-ready.
Recently, Nissan has been teasing us with a new sports car prototype, the Proto Z. And it’s quite a looker.
The grill and headlights certainly beckon to the original 240-280Z cars, with their square grilles and sugar scoop headlights. And the back end really suggests the taillights of the early 1990s 300Zx, a potent beast whose simple styling has aged very well over the decades. Don’t believe it? Hot Wheels has a twin pack with an original 240Z/Fiarlady for comparison.
Upon closer look, it does have the same proportions as the recent 350-370Z models, which are getting a bit long in the tooth. No matter, it’s a handsome and exciting design.
Hot Wheels might be taking a bit of a gamble releasing a model of the concept car, but all indications are this concept is ready for prime time. So aside from minor details, this diecast mold should hold up for years after the real car hits the streets.
So until you can get your hands on the real thing (wait another year for the first ones to roll off the assembly line, then order it, then wait another long time…), this is as good as it gets.
Get you some Zzzzzzs while you can!
