Matchbox Electric G Wagen Goes Green With Recycled Materials

Matchbox isn’t recycling old ideas with their new model of the Mercedes-Benz G Class G 850. But they are recycling materials.

Introduced to the world in April, the Electric G is unmistakably retro in style, but uses the absolute latest in EV technology. The new 1/64-scale model of Mercedes’ 1/1 SUV is made from 99.5 recycled metals and environmentally friendlier plastics. It also comes in a box made from recycled paper products, that can be reconfigured as a nice display base. The synergy between the model and the real vehicle is perfect.

The Matchbox version is Manufaktur South Sea Blue Magno with a black interior. As a nice touch, the front doors open so you can see the insides better.

This new model is an extension of the Matchbox campaign Driving to a Better Future, which started in 2022. The program promotes sustainability by including more models of electric vehicles in the product range. It’s also an early step in Matchbox’s goal to use 100 percent recycled, recyclable, or bio-based plastics and materials in its products and packaging by 2030.

The model can be ordered now from Mattel Creations for $30. At that price, it’s probably about as close as you will get to owning the G 850 in any size.
