The 2025 Asian diecast convention circuit has presented collectors with one of the most ambitious and exciting collecting challenges in recent Hot Wheels history. Mattel has released a specially designed Porsche RS 3.5 model across multiple Asian conventions throughout the year, with each country receiving its own unique card backing and regional variations. This strategic release has created what many collectors are calling the “Asian RS 3.5 Grand Slam” – the quest to own all the different country variants.
The Convention Circuit
The Porsche RS 3.5 has and will make appearances at major diecast and Hot Wheels conventions across Asia in 2025, including events in:
- Malaysia – Art of Speed
- Singapore – Singapore Diecast Expo
- Australia – Australia Diecast Expo
- Philippines – Collectors Convention
- Indonesia – Indonesia Diecast Expo
Each convention has featured the same core Porsche RS 3.5 casting but with distinctive card artwork that incorporates the local diecast convention logo.
The Casting Details
The Porsche RS 3.5 featured in this series showcases Hot Wheels’ premium casting quality with:
- Authentic detailing reflecting the iconic 1970s racing heritage
- Tampo printing featuring period-correct racing liveries
- Real Riders wheels
The Collector’s Challenge
This is where it’s going to get very interesting. Hardcore Hotwheels collectors and scalpers alike are going to try and complete the entire set making up the Asian 3.5 Grand Slam AND it is going to get very expensive. Already the Malaysia model is reaching prices as high as USD450 on ebay and the probability of being sold is very high. We think on average though, prices will settle at around USD500 for the entire set.
The Broader Impact
This Asian convention series represents a new approach by Mattel to create truly international collecting experiences. By tying the same casting to multiple regional events, they’ve created a collecting challenge that transcends individual markets and brings the global Hot Wheels community together in pursuit of a common goal.
